William Clarence "Mac" Bain

Funeral Services for William Clarence "Mac" Bain, age 95, of Greenwood, MS will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS on Saturday, August 12th. Burial will be at Marvin Chapel Methodist Church. Mac died Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Indywood Glen Assisted Living Center in Greenwood. Mac, as he was known by family and friends, was born December 17, 1921 in the Marvin Chapel Community near Ethel, MS. He graduated from Ethel High School in April of 1942. In September of 1942, he served his country by joining the U.S. Air Force. During this time he was stationed in England in the 8th Air Force. Mac was honorably discharged on October 15, 1945 in Souix Falls, South Dakota. After his discharge, in 1946, he attended Holmes Jr. College, and then transferred to Mississippi State where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1949. Mac started his work career with the USDA where he worked for a number of years. He then joined the Mississippi Forestry Commission in Greenwood, MS. Later, he earned his realtor's license and worked until his retirement in 1999. Mac married Grace Jenkins of Thomastown, MS in 1947. They were married 67 years before her passing. During his lifetime he served as a Mason and Schriner. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion in Greenwood, MS. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Jenkins Bain; parents, Bill and Exie Bain; four sisters Ursula Barton, Mary Harrison, Lois Wasson, Grace Hodges and four brothers, Lum Bain, Audley Bain, Jim Bain and Dewitt Bain. Mac is survived by a host of loving and devoted nieces and nephews, and the Floyd Melton, Jr. family, of Greenwood, whom he and his wife considered family. A very special thank you to his caregivers: Beauty Meeks, Teresa Peeples, Jerry Branch, Mary Baker, Shanka Summerville, Laquitta Tabor, and Arnesha Washington, who provided loving care for the last few years of his life. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 12th, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with the service immediately following at Jordon Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS. Rev. Dewitt Bain will officiate the service. Pallbearers are Gerald Barton, Steve Bain, Tom Wasson, Floyd Melton III, Moss Melton, and Seth McInteer. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Harrison, James Hodges, Frank Jenkins, Floyd Melton Jr., and J.D. Burchfield. Interment will follow in Marvin Chapel Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery fund.
