Vira Oakes, 96, of Hesterville community in Attala County, Mississippi passed away April 25, 2023, at Attala County Nursing Center. Visitation is 2:00 p.m. until 3: 00 p.m., Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Graveside service is at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Shiloh Independent Methodist Church Cemetery. Benny Rigby and Jerry Rigby will be officiating.
Vira was born June 6, 1926, to Daniel Cirk Webster and Irene Cook Webster in Attala County. Vira married T.I. Oakes April 5, 1947, and celebrated 56 wonderful years of marriage until he passed away December 16, 2003. She was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh Independent Methodist Church. Vira worked for J. A. Olson and wrote the Hesterville news for the Star-Herald for many years.
Vira is survived by sons, Tommy (Lana) Oakes of Aberdeen, Mississippi, Danny (Trisha) Oakes of Carmack -Hesterville, James Oakes of Hesterville, and Bobby (Melissa) Oakes of Sallis, Mississippi; grandchildren, Tonya (Kenny) Coker, Brad (Roxanne) Oakes, Timmy (Tara) Oakes, Tammy (Greg) Kelley, Amanda Oakes, Alan Oakes, Laura Oakes, Suzanne Oakes, Josh Oakes, Samuel Oakes, and Victoria Oakes; 24 Great-Grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T.I. Oakes; parents, Daniel Cirk Webster and Irene Cook Webster; daughter, Shirley Norene Oakes; sisters, Cora Mai Webster McGee, and Annie Kathryn Webster Powell; and brother, Daniel Henry Webster.
Serving as pallbearers are Timmy Oakes, Brad Oakes, Bryce Oakes, Kenneth Coker, Trenton Oakes, Thomas Oakes, and Alan Oakes.
