Sam Wayne Mcdonald

June 4, 1925 — October 27, 2016

Sam Wayne McDonald, born June 4, 1925 in Attala County, MS passed away peacefully at his home in Mendenhall, MS surrounded by family on October 27, 2016. Sam was a proud veteran who served in both the Navy and Army for over twenty years. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy in the South Pacific. After the war Sam married Liilian Pope Falkner of Kosciusko, MS and joined the Army where he served on active duty for over 20 years and was a veteran of the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. Sam is survived by his wife of 69 ½ years, Lillian Falkner McDonald; three daughters, Linda McDonald Oglesby (Ronald) of Knoxville, TN, Leslie McDonald Thomas (Donnie) of Mendenhall, MS and Cathy McDonald McCormick of Mendenhall, MS; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; his only remaining sibling, Mrs. Billie Tedder of Memphis, TN and numerous nephews and nieces. Sam is pre-deceased by his parents Annie Sue and Willie McDonald, his brothers, Roy, George, and Sonny McDonald, and sisters, Irene McDonald Wade, Wardine McDonald Tindoll, and Bobbie McDonald Moore. Sam and Lillian, long time residents of Haughton, Louisiana had recently relocated to Mendenhall, MS to be near family during the last few months of his life. Sam was a gypsy at heart and never lost his lure for travelling. He and Liliian spent many years travelling the US and Canada in their RV. A special thanks to the loving care provided by the staff at Gentiva Hospice of Magee, MS over the last several months and to Betty Cooley, our daily caregiver who was so loving and kind to our husband and father. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on November 5, 2016 at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko, MS followed by a fellowship of family and friends at Wanda's Catering, 101 Northside Plaza (across from McDonald's) in Kosciusko, MS. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Sam's memory to St. Jude's Childrens' Hospital or the Alzheimers Association.
