NELA CORINNE HUGHES

Nela Corinne Hughes was born April 9, 1930 in Attala County to Louie W. Hughes and Corinne Hammond Hughes. She was an only child. She attended Kosciusko public schools and graduated from Kosciusko High School in the class of 1948. She attended and graduated from MSCW. During her active life, she was a life learner. For 13 years, she was employed at Superior Coach Corp. in Kosciusko and from there she worked in various state agencies in Jackson, Mississippi. Most of her work involved working with children’s needs for care, education, safety, and affection.

Nela had a wide circle of friends and colleagues. She was loyal and steadfast. She rose in the ranks of her profession and was a trusted public servant and advisor.

Nela traveled extensively, both at home and abroad. She loved people, places, and enriching experiences.

Nela was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church in Kosciusko. She was a long term member of the Mary Thornton Sunday School class and the adult choir. She fully understood that no one before a holy God is good, save for the redemptive exchange of one’s sin for the good and perfect righteousness of Christ in whom she had strong faith. It was apparent Nela was a professor and practitioner of the Christian faith of salvation by grace alone through faith in Christ alone for the glory of God alone, as revealed in the Scriptures alone.

Nela lived, what to the observer, was a lonely life. Her eyesight failed; her mobility was limited. Her social connections contracted. However, she was not alone. She knew her God was near and He would never forsake her. She entered the dark river, the afternoon of October 23, 2022 and found the bottom to be firm. She knew the souls of believers are made perfect in holiness and do immediately pass into glory, and their bodies being still united to Christ do rest in their graves til the resurrection. To God be the Glory!
