Born on April 29, 1920, to Clifton and Eunice Comfort of Kosciusko, Mrs. Heilbronner and her two brothers were Kosciusko natives. After graduating from high school in 1938, she attended Montreat College in North Carolina for two years. In 1940 she transferred to the University of Mississippi and graduated from there in 1942 with a teaching degree. Two years later she completed her formal education, graduating from the University of North Carolina with a degree in Library Science. Mrs. Heilbronner taught school in the Kosciusko School System and worked as a librarian in both Drew and Yazoo City, MS. She then became Circulation Librarian at the University of Mississippi until marrying her childhood sweetheart in April of 1948. After becoming the bride of Edmund Gus Heilbronner, the two embarked on a military career that took them many places. They first lived in Fort Riley, KS, where their son Wayne was born. Their daughter Janet was born after a move to Fort Sill, OK. Other Army assignments took them to Washington, DC, Fort Leavenworth, KS, the Panama Canal Zone, the Military Academy at West Point, and Fort Polk, LA. After retirement in 1973, the couple retired in Kosciusko. She continued their career- long enjoyment of entertaining family and friends with formal dinners in their home often. She enjoyed community work, various civic clubs, and visiting those sick or home bound, up to the last week of her life. A priority and joy in her life was worshipping and serving in many capacities within the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Heilbronner was the widow of Col. Edmund Gus Heilbronner. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Gunnery Sergeant Edwin Litton of Beaufort, South Carolina. She is survived by her son, Wayne Heilbronner (Cindy) of Kosciusko and her daughter, Janet Litton (Randy) of Waverly, TN. She considered her most important life accomplishment to be having raised her children to be active Christians. Other survivors are grandchildren Haley Kuhn (Shelby) of Kosciusko, Britton Hathorn (Brad) of Madison, and Staff Sergeant Nicholas Litton (Brittany) of Hampton, Virginia. Great- grandchildren are Michaela and Nathanael Litton of Summerville, South Carolina, Anna Grace, Barrett, and Brooks Kuhn of Kosciusko, and Lawson, Landon, and Asher Hathorn of Madison. All will miss the values and virtues she exemplified with such love. Pallbearers will be Bob Jordan, John Clark Love, Jimmy Mullins, Hugh Potts, Jr., Bubba Stewart, and Toby Tyler. Honorary pallbearers will be Dub Shoemaker, Don Smith, Larry Terrell, and Brooks Swales, all of Kosciusko. Her family asks that those desiring to give a gift in her honor consider the Palmer Home for Children in Columbus, MS.
