Minnie Alice Rone

March 1, 1922 — April 1, 2024

Minnie Alice “Toots” Rone went home to be with her Lord and Savior after living on this Earth for 102 years and 1 month on April 1, 2024.

She lived in Attala all her life, being born to the late John Thomas “Tom” Rone and Mary Oliver Rone on March 1, 1922. As one of nine children, she was preceded in death by Thomas Rone, Mary Rone Gibbs, Hettie Rone Bradshaw, Ibbie Rone Smith, Lanie Rone Purvis, and Nina Rone Hart. She is survived by her brother George Rone of Senatobia and Sister Frances Rone Lester of Kosciusko. She was known as “Aunt Toots” to her many nieces and nephews spanning several generations.

Independence and No Nonsense describes her personality. Minnie Alice had a great love for God, family, and country. She was always available to anyone who needed help. She graduated from Ethel High School in 1941.. She remained home for several years helping on the family farm and the home where she lived all her life.

Minnie Alice later attended the school Lunch Manager Institute at Mississippi Health. She became the cafeteria manager at Ethel School for several years. Later, she completed a Business course at Holmes Community College. Following her life dream to become a Nurse, she attended and received her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from Holmes Junior College and the University Mississippi Medical Center. Minnie worked at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital, and a short span in Hattiesburg.

After completely retiring from nursing, she stayed on the family farm devoting her life to the care of Tom and Mary, her parents, until their death and living an independent country life. She was a member of Tabernacle Church for many years before moving to Ethel Baptist Church in 1999.

Minnie Alice welcomed each day by singing “Oh What a Beautiful Morning”. A day never passed without her singing the old hymns and yodeling while working in the yard, tending her flowers, cacti or riding her lawn mower. She loved traveling from the Carolina mountains to Grand Canyon in Arizonia. She loved making the trips to Mt. View, Arkansas twice a year with her sisters. It was such a special time of togetherness. “Toots” loved her care takers, Bonita Winters, and Willie Jean Hannah. She always told them that God sent them directly to her.

Many thanks go to the Attala Nursing Center and Staff there.
