She was born January 27, 1926 to Howard Carl and Ruth McMillan Mitchell of Durant, MS. She was the second of three daughters and like her sisters she loved music, roller skating and had a gift for mathematics. She attended Durant schools and worked as a secretary while attending Holmes Junior College. While at Holmes, she met and married William Burdette Montague of Kilmichael, MS. Mrs. Montague was a devoted member of McAdams Baptist Church, where she served in various positions through the years. She was a faithful choir member, Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible school teacher and Bible drill instructor. She loved her church family dearly and was very loved and encouraged by her church family and community friends. Mrs. Montague enjoyed volunteering as a Boy Scout troop leader when her son was young and sewed beautifully for her two daughters. She and her children traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada supporting her husband as he worked ten years for the H.C. Price Pipeline Company as a land litigator and safety engineer. After making their permanent home in McAdams, Mildred could always be counted on to cheer on her husband when he coached basketball and football at various schools. She was always her husband's biggest supporter. She was the secretary and bookkeeper for the Attala County Schools for twenty five years. After retiring, she served as a member and president of the Attala County Schools. She had a keen knowledge and support for the promotion of a solid education for all students. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Dorothy Mitchell Johnson and Shirley Mitchell McCoy; precious aunts, Lella Campbell and Mildred Poole; a host of Christian friends she looked forward to reuniting with, in her heavenly home. She leaves behind two daughters, Harriet Montague Caldwell (Johnny) of Pearl and Phyllis Montague Hardin (Dr. James R.) of Carrolton; son, Frank Mitchell Montague (Teresa) of McAdams; grandchildren, Monti Caldwell Bishop (Mark), Michael Austin Caldwell (Christa), Julie Harmon (Ben), Jeffrey Hamilton Harden, Dr. Brent Hardin (Ramey), McKenzie Davidson (Paul), Daniel Cade Montague, Mark Cameron Hardin (Cassey), Casey Johnson (Nathan); 18 great grandchildren. Everyone always looked forward to spending holidays and family get togethers at her home. She leaves behind an enormous impression with her family and friends. Her generosity, hospitality and love will always be remembered and cherished for many generations to come. Our family wishes to thank those friends who were faithful to check on Mother during these last years. Special thanks to Mrs. Anna Ruth Allen, Sandra Schuler and Cathy England.
