Mildred Dempsey Grissom, 94, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 at her home in McCool, Mississippi. She was born in the Lobutcha community of Choctaw County, the daughter of John Samuel Dempsey and Sarah Alma Harden Dempsey, both of whom were descendants of pioneer Mississippi families. She was a graduate of the Mississippi University for Women and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Her 30 year career after military service was in the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command. After retirement, she had a second career in tax preparation with H&R Block. She had an avid interest in genealogy research and was an active member of the Choctaw County Historical Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Grissom; her sister, Ethel Dempsey Whittington and brother, John Marion Dempsey. She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Dempsey Watkins of Carthage, Mississippi.
