Mary Helen Cagle

Helen Flint Cagle, 99 years of age, died at Vaiden Nursing Home on Friday, July 22, 2022, exactly twenty-six years after the death of her husband, Dewitt. She was the eldest daughter of the late Edgar and Ophelia Flint, lifelong residents of Attala County. After attending nursing school, she worked in the medical profession, first at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital and later in a local doctor’s office. Later in life, she listened to a sermon on the radio by pastor, William Surratt that changed her life. She started attending his church, Old Dominion Christian Church and then worked for many years in the associated school. This was her true calling; she loved working there. She was beloved by all her family and was the reigning Scrabble queen as she often delighted in totally trouncing her youngest sister. She was known for hating to have a picture made so we are grateful that great granddaughter Anna had a habit of taking selfies with her over her protests. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband Dewitt Cagle, her daughter Susan Lindsey, her grandson Tim Lindsey, her brother Weldon Flint, and her sister Wardine McDaniel and her beloved daughter in law, Jennifer Munn Cagle. She is survived by her son Gerald Cagle, grandchildren Kim (Billy) Carson, Karla (Lonny) Summers and Selena (John) Smith, and seven great grandchildren, Alex and Abby Carson, Avery, Anna and A.J. Summers, Austin Smith, and Jimmy Dale Keith. Three sisters, Belva Cagle, Katherine Sowell, and Billye Jane Shirley, as well as several generations of nieces and nephews also survive her. Visitation will be at Jordan’s Funeral Home on Monday, July25 from 9:00 to 11:00 with the service immediately following in the chapel. With respect for the heat, there will be no graveside service.
