Marilyn Johnson

April 17, 1935 — May 8, 2024

Marilyn Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died May 8, 2024, at 89 years of age. She loved the Lord, whom she trusted for her salvation, and after realizing what being called into a committed relationship with God truly meant, she sought to serve Him, without reservation. Her life was one of devotion and service to God, family, friends and those placed in her care at French Camp Academy.

Marilyn was born on April 17, 1935, in Belleville, Illinois. She married Jack Johnson, the love of her life on November 24, 1953, and together they raised four children while living in O’Fallon, Illinois, and Corinth, Mississippi. In 1976, the family moved to French Camp, Mississippi, where for the next eight years she took on an additional mother role as she counselled, encouraged, loved and challenged her many dorm daughters with the same wisdom, encouragement, love and instructions she received. In addition to dorm parenting duties, she was active in creating quilts, cross-stitch pieces and artistic wall hangings for the craft department. She retired in 2000, but volunteered at Double Blessings until 2010.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents Homer and Viola Brethauer, her husband Jack Johnson, and her sister and brother-in-law Evelyn (Wayne) Schlosser. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Stuart (Carol) Brethauer; her children Jeff (Kay) Johnson, Holly Johnson, Kelly (Ed) Pasley and Amy (Doug) Lawty; her grandchildren Christi (Jason) Stevenson, Aaron (Hanna) Johnson, Rebekah Johnson (fiancé Josh Gardner), Tyler Johnson, Sean (Kendall) Pasley, Colleen (Matt) Robinson, Hannah, Nathan, Noah (Bella), Jacob and Caleb Lawty; her great grandchildren Peyton, Jaidyn, Maisyn and Morgan Stevenson, Liam, Ewen, Declan and Thomas Pasley, JJ Gardner, and soon-to-be-born baby Gardner.

French Camp Presbyterian Church will host her graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 11, 2024, with visitation starting at 1:00 PM and funeral service starting at 2:00 PM. The burial will take place at French Camp Cemetery.
