Leslie Bain Lord Leslie Bain Lord, 68, of Oakton, Virginia, late of Atlanta, Georgia, died in Atlanta on September 20, 2018, of cardiac failure after a long illness. He lived his entire professional life in northern Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Charlotte Lord of Jackson, Mississippi. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Joan Lord, both of Atlanta; an uncle and aunt, Otis and Delores Bain, of Lindale, Texas; and several cousins. A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Lord was a graduate of Forest Hill High School and of Belhaven University, both in Jackson. He held a Master of Public Administration degree from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. After his honorable discharge from the United States Army, he was a career civil servant human resources specialist in the Department of the Army in the Pentagon. Among his numerous noteworthy accomplishments there was forging and shepherding the adoption of a policy which expedited the citizenship process for non-U.S. citizens serving in uniform. He received a special award for this significant contribution to the military and to the country. Lord was a dedicated life-long member of The United Methodist Church and a faithful member of Fairfax United Methodist Church in Fairfax, Virginia, serving as a member of its Administrative Board and as a member of its adult choir, and as a lay speaker, among other responsibilities. He was also an accomplished pianist as well as a member of the National Christian Choir in Washington, D.C., having toured with that group in Europe and Russia. His funeral service will be held at Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church near Kosciusko, Mississippi, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018, with interment following in the Marvin Chapel cemetery. The Reverend John Evans, Belhaven classmate and now pastor of Bovina and Red Bone United Methodist Churches in Mississippi, will officiate. The family will greet guests at the church beginning an hour before the service. A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, Georgia, and Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi, are in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The United Methodist Committee on Relief, 458 Ponce De Leon Avenue, NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30308, or to Fairfax United Methodist Church, 10300 Stratford Avenue, Fairfax, Virginia 22030.
