Lenoir Black

Lenoir Black, 88, of Memphis, Tennessee, departed this temporal life for life eternal on Sunday, January 11, 2015. Lenoir was born to Lester Samuel Black and Clara Hutchinson Black on June 4, 1926, in Weir, Mississippi. Lenoir attended Holmes Junior College and graduated from Mississippi State University. Lenoir began attending Mississippi State football games in the 1930's with his grandfather and continued to be a loyal supporter of Mississippi State athletics attending both home and away games with his son, grandsons and great-grandchildren. Among the things Lenoir enjoyed most was attending Mississippi State football games at Scott Field with four generations of the family he loved so dearly. Lenoir was an electrician's mate aboard two submarines during WWII. He was retired from C.P. Hall Chemical Company where he was the Executive Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors. Along with his wife, Jeanne Comfort Black, whom he survived by 31 hours, Lenoir attended First Evangelical Church in Memphis. He is survived by his son, Stevan Lenoir Black, Sr. (Lynda) of Memphis and by his daughter, Sharon Comfort Black of Cambridge, Massachusetts; by his grandchildren, Stevan L. Black, Jr. (Jennifer) of West Point, Mississippi, Michael Bradford Black (Tracey) of Memphis, Shelby Christine Black of Memphis and Daniel Comfort Black of Memphis. He is also survived by one step-grandson and by six great-grandchildren. He will be buried at Marvin Chapel Cemetery in Kosciusko, Mississippi alongside his wife and their infant son, Michael Grant Black, who predeceased them in 1951. Funeral services for the family will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Marvin Chapel Church preceding the burial. At 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2015 a memorial service will be held at the Fellowship Hall at First Evangelical Church of Memphis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Mississippi State Bulldog Club or First Evangelical Church.
