J.W. Thrasher

James (J. W.) Thrasher [aka “Gramps”], 81, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren -- including great grandchildren (who all loved him so much). Graveside services will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2021 at Parkway cemetery in Kosciusko with Rev. Jerry Meggs officiating. Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Thrasher grew up in Louisville, MS before he met the love of his life at a very early age -- the two were married over 62 years. Along with his wife, he was a member of the Williamsville Independent Methodist Church. Always full of energy and innovative ideas, J.W. worked at Sheller-Globe in Kosciusko, MS for 19 years; and was a co-founder of Companion Vans in McGregor, TX, a van conversion company, for many years. A lover of the great outdoors, he was an avid fisherman, hunter, and loved all animals. He and his wife also enjoyed working arts and crafts shows and creating beautiful custom woodwork. He is survived by his wife, Jerri Thrasher of Kosciusko, MS; one son, Mike (Tammy) Thrasher of Kosciusko, MS; two daughters, Teresa (Mike) Ustanik of Alvarado, TX, and Melissa (Danny) Ripley of McGregor, TX; one brother, Arthur Ross of Tennessee; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Thrasher is preceded in death by his parents, James Nathan Thrasher and Louise Burroughs Thrasher Ross; stepfather, Robert J. Ross; two stepbrothers, Roy Ross and Tony Ross. Pallbearers will be: Mike Ustanik, Danny Ripley, Ben Dew, Anthony Ustanik, Evan Thrasher, Austin Ustanik, Hunter Ripley, and Noah Dew. Honorary pallbearers in heart are: Dylan Ripley and Brandon Crowson. In memoriam, the family designated both the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association.
