Beloved husband and Father John Leverette Gallagher, Sr., went home to be with our Lord and Savior on December 11, 2014, after a short illness; he was a native of Madison County. He was born on August 23, 1936, to M.B. and Loretta Warner Gallagher. He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Wanda Lindley Gallagher, formerly of Canton, MS; they lived in Holmes and Attala Counties for most of the past 40 years. He was a member of the former Faith Fellowship Church of Lexington. He held various positions over the years, mostly in the construction and maintenance industry; previous employers include School Pictures, Inc., The Clarion-Ledger, University of Mississippi Medical Center, all of Jackson, MS; Packard Electric in Durant; and various local contractors. He also served short stint in the US National Guard. John enjoyed his family, and hobbies included wood-working, fishing, and hunting with his sons, nephews, and grandsons. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, M.B. and Loretta, and sisters, Dorothy Young, Annette Kuykendall, and Catherine Switzer, all from Ridgeland. He leaves behind 5 children: Helen Shorter of Harrisville, MS; John & Jenni (Fulghum) Gallagher of Soldotna, Alaska; Shane & Tanya (Lindsey) Gallagherof Ft. Myers Florida; Kathleen and Glen Bishop of Sallis, MS; and Shannon Gallagher of Durant, MS, 12grandchildren and great-grandfather to 14 whom he loved and cherished, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held at Brister Cemetery on Highway 51 in West, MS on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 2:00 PM.
