Joe Dudley Cheek, 85, of Kosciusko, MS, passed away on March 1, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation is Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home. Funeral Services are Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home with burial in Parkway Cemetery. Rev. Doyle Mitchell will officiate the services.
He was born August 6, 1939, in Meridian, MS, the son of J.C. Cheek and Sudie Belle Matheny Cheek.
Joe attended school in Meridian and Kosciusko, MS. He served in the United States Air Force. Upon the completion of his military service, he began working with his father, J.C. Cheek. Joe eventually became co-owner of J.C. Cheek Contractors, Inc. During his career, he oversaw contracted work on many large-scale construction projects including the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, Fort Drum Military Base in New York and the Saturn Automobile Plant in Tennessee and many highway projects throughout the southeast. Following his retirement from J.C. Cheek Contractors, Inc., Joe continued raising cattle at his Lazy C Ranch. He started and managed Cheek and Crosby Construction before fully retiring in 2022.
He was a long-time member of the Williamsville Independent Methodist Church, where he served as Deacon and on various committees.
Joe is survived by his wife, Harriet Boots Cheek, and his children James Cheek (Michelle), Jerry Cheek, Jeffrey Cheek (Sharon), Joseph Cheek (Mi Yong), Cheryl King, 19 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren; stepchildren: Nelson Boots (Valerie), Laurie Boots, Bruce Boots, Christie Boots (Arnold Printup), and siblings, Jerry Cox, Marie Harmel (Don), Hollis Cheek (Sarah), Carol Cheek Simmons, and Stephen Cheek (Sherrie); and sister-in-law, Tina Cheek.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Sudie Belle Cheek; his son, John Cheek; his brother, Gary Cheek, and step-mother, Frances Ward Cheek.
Those serving as pallbearers are Jason Blaylock, Christopher King, Randolph Cheek, Winston Cheek, Madison Cheek, and Houston Cheek.
Those serving as honorary pallbearers are Bobby Atwood, A.J. Cheek, James Thomas Cheek, Jessie Crosby, Richard Gowan, Mike Ingram, Travis McBride, Bud Moore, Jimmy Pruitt, and Miles Veasley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Williamsville Independent Methodist Church, 17352 MS-19, Kosciusko, MS 39090
