James Warren Cagle, 93, died at his residence on Monday, April 9, kicking and screaming because he wanted to ride his ranger to the pond just one more time. Born March 15, 1925, the third son of Millard and Iva Cagle, he died within 100 feet of the spot where he was born. A 5th generation Attala County native, his love was his wife, his family, and his land. He was saddened to lose in death before him his parents, brothers, Doyle and Dewitt, sister, Frances, son, Dennis and grandson, Denny. Mr. Cagle served honorably in the US Army during WWII and was a member of the American Legion and a staunch supporter of our country. In 2012 he was honored to have the American Legion post building named in his honor. He was a member of Trinity Lodge #88, Order of Eastern Star #134, and served in many positions in each. A lifelong Methodist, Mr. Cagle was a member of Williamsville Independent Methodist Church. After leaving service, Mr. Cagle returned to Attala County and married his sweetheart, his partner, his friend, Belva Flint. Together they raised 5 children, 8 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren, with another due this year. His career included farming, Continental Trailways, and rural mail carrier, each of which he did honorably. He was the originator of Cagle Family Camp, a yearly tradition in which all the family spends a weekend together centered around his and Belva's anniversary. His survivors will continue this tradition in his honor. Celebrating his life are his wife of 71 years, Belva; daughters Marianne (Jack) Wilson, Betty (Greg) Bermond and Sandra (David) Mangum, son, Robert (Lola) Cagle, and that great horde of grands and great-grands who all have wonderful memories and stories to tell about Pappy. Our special thanks for the love and care shown us all by Georgia Brown, Patricia Stewart and Kathryn Veasley. Visitation will be held at Jordan Funeral Home from 5-8 on Wednesday, April 11. Service will be at 11 a.m. in the Chapel on Thursday, April 12 with burial at Marvin Chapel Cemetery. Pall bearers will be grandsons, Nic Cagle, Terry Crawford, Michael Avalon, Reed Patton, Cooper Clark and Riley Patton. Honorary pallbearer will be members of Fred Wasson Post #44 of the American Legion. Memorials may be made to the Marvin Chapel Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
