A good man died today. You may not have known him, but you would have liked him. James Howard Mixon, 67, died at home, surrounded by his women…Susan, Dixie Darling, and Baby Beulah. Howard was a true servant of Jesus, a loving daddy to Ann and Henry, an MSU cowbell-carrying Bulldog, and a soldier who protected you and me. Howard was born of a preacher man and a seamstress. He was raised by his Pa Rhudy to love the sky; by his Granny to be respectful of women and kind to animals; and by his mother to love Jesus. He was preceded in death by his Pa and Granny Rhudy and brother Kelly. Survivors are mother, Virginia Cowart of Aberdeen; children, Henry and Ann Mixon of Fayetteville, NC; wife, Susan Pee Mixon of Kosciusko; brother, Tim (Doris) Mixon of West Point; sister, Gail (Walter) Brown of Texas; sister-in-law, Beth (Jackie) Wiles of Madison; and brother-in-law, Wayne (Elizabeth) Jordan of Atlanta. Then there were six…Minnie fed him. Without her waffles, Howard would have starved. Britni nurtured him. Without her nursing skills and common sense, he would have been uncomfortable. Julie listened. Without her acknowledgement of two people suffering, we would have felt abandoned. Alton cleaned his body. Without his tender touch, Howard would have cringed. Mr. Fletcher treated him like a brother, not a patient. Without his respect and mutual love of Gunsmoke, Howard would have died lonely. Brother Barry prayed him Home.
