James E. "Dick" Richards

May 22, 1932 — December 12, 2015

Mr. James Emery "Dick" Richards, age 83, resident of Kosciusko, MS died Saturday at his residence after a lengthy illness and most recent, pneumonia. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 Monday at Jordan Funeral Home with services to be held at 2 pm Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Scott Wright and Rev. Mary Berry will officiate the services. Mr. Richards was born May 22, 1932 in Kosciusko, MS. Parents were father, James Clifford Richards and mother, Tomie Lucille Sweatt Richards. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Dick graduated from Kosciusko MS in 1950. He was a member of the Whippets football team. He enlisted in the USMC being stationed in Camp Le June North Carolina and Pusan South Korea during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in March 1954. He graduated from Crawford Long Hospital Medical Technology School. He worked at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko, MS as a medical and Lab Tech. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, James Emery Richards, Jr.; and his first wife, Dorothy Lou Baker. He is survived by his wife, Mary Williams Richards; daughter, Jamie Richards Hawkins and son-in-law John Hawkins; granddaughter, Amanda Luan Hawkins; grandson, John Emery Hawkins of McDonough, GA; sister, Jean Carol Roberts and husband William E. Roberts; sisters-in-law, Lynn W. Orr, Betty Ann Williams and Shirley Williams; numerous nieces and nephews and other family members and friends. He will be greatly missed by all. James enjoyed hunting and especially fishing. He and wife, Mary spent many happy hours fishing together. Their favorite fishing hole was on the Tennessee River in Iuka, MS. The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to Mississippi Home Care Nurses for many years of care, and to Halycon Hospice care over the last few days for their wonderful care given to James as well as the entire family. Further, thanks and appreciation to Central Medical Supply and United Medical Supply for all their help over the many years. Thanks also to Dr. James Withers and other staff members at Kosciusko Medical Clinic and Pickles Drug Store. Thanks also to our Church family and neighbors and friends who have kept us going over the many years. In lieu of flowers, any memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Kosciusko or Blair E, Batson Children's Hospital at UMC, Jackson, MS.
