Hugh Lee Ballard, Jr. died in his home on April 20, 2018 in Ethel, MS. He was 78. Mr. Ballard was born on September 27, 1939 in Kosciusko, MS to his parents, Hugh Lee Sr. and Susie Woodrow Cooksey Ballard. He graduated from Kosciusko High School, Holmes Community College, and attended Delta State University. He married Linda Nell Brunt of Ethel, MS in 1966, his wife of 52 years. They lived near Ethel, MS, where he retired from road and bridge construction in 2009. During his high school years, Mr. Ballard was very active in the various sports programs for Kosciusko High School. He also served in the United States Army for three years in Okinawa, Japan. Mr. Ballard is survived by his wife, Linda Brunt Ballard; daughter, Rachel Ballard Mangum, and her husband, Michael Jason Mangum of Long Beach, MS; sister, Rosemary Harrison (Jimmy); brother, Allen Ballard (Rita); nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Hugh Lee Ballard Sr., and mother, Susie Woodrow Cooksey Ballard; and brother, Paul Everett Ballard. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 24 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS and his funeral services will be held at the Jordan Funeral Home Chapel Wednesday April 25 at 2:00 PM, with burial to follow at Stonewall Cemetery in Ethel, MS. Pallbearers will be Hugh Allen Ballard, Benjamin Brunt, Clayton Brunt, Thomas Brunt, Chris Williams, and Tony Walbert. Honorary pallbearers will be The Kosciusko High School Class of 1958, Vic Harrison, Pete Melby, Larry Stevens, and Joey Walbert. Memorial may be sent to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences can be made at jordanfuneralhome.com.
