Evelyn H. Thompson

July 8, 1926 — August 16, 2014

Evelyn Lucille Hand Thompson of Brandon, MS, was called to her Eternal home on August 16, 2014, after a brief illness in St. Dominic Hospital. Originally from West, MS, she was the daughter of Fred and Lillie Hand and the youngest of 4 children. A graduate of West High School, she received a BS degree in Business Education from MSCW (presently known as MUW) in Columbus, MS. She worked as a secretary for the Social Security Administration in Greenville, MS. While there, she met her beloved husband of 52 years, the late Robert C. Thompson, Jr. They were married in the First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, Mississippi. They are the parents of four children and have resided in Greenville, MS; Dermott AR,; Ferriday, LA; Tchula, MS; West, MS; and Brandon, MS. Mrs. Thompson's teaching career began at the Vo-Tech Center in Ferriday, LA and also included a number of years at Cruger-Tchula Academy, Cruger MS. It concluded with an 18-year tenure at Winston, Academy, Louisville, MS, where she was honored as a Star teacher, before retiring in 2003. She lovingly and joyfully devoted her heart to each of the many roles she filled. She added a ray of sunshine everywhere she went. Her life was a beautiful testimony of God's love to all who were blessed to know her. She was, is and will remain dearly loved by them all. As a lifelong Presbyterian, she served as a choir member and Sunday school teacher. Gifted with a beautiful soprano voice, she loved nothing more than praising her Lord in song. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Robert C. Thompson, Jr, of Brandon, MS; parents, Fred and Lillie Hand, of West, MS; brother, Fred Hand, of Brownsboro, AL; and sister, Mary Nell Hand Mansell, of Starkville, MS.
