Ernest Hilmon Flint

Died April 21, 2016, Reception and Funeral at Shady Grove Community Church April 23, 2016 – 1:00PM Ernest Hilmon Flint was born on August 30th, 1912 at the family home in the Shady Grove Community. His parents were Robert Stewart and Alice Jane O'Reagan Flint He has been preceeded in death by all of his immediate family members including brothers Edgar, Estol, Robert; and sister Lilian Flint Moore as well as his wife Ora Bell Bain Flint and an infant son Dannie. Mrs. Flint and Dannie are already interred here. Ernest grew up on a farm here in the Shady Grove community. He lived most of his life in the same home here. He attended Shady Grove School until the eighth grade and then moved to the Attala Agricultural High School at McAdams where he graduated in 1930. He also attended Draughan's Business College in Memphis, TN. He and Ora Bell Bain were married in 1941 and established their home on the family farm near Shady Grove. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in Europe until being discharged in 1945. He earned the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart during combat in France, Belgium, and Germany. He returned in 1945 to rebuild his home and the farm. A son, Ernest Hilmon Flint, Jr. was born in 1947, and a second son Dannie Michael was born and died as an infant in 1952. He was an active member of the Shady Grove Methodist Church as well as the Community Club there. Mr. Flint was a farmer and was employed by Superior Coach Corporation until his retirement. He was active on the farm until the age of 99 at which time he entered the Veteran's Home in Kosciusko where he resided until his death at age 103. He is survived by one son, Ernest Hilmon Flint, Jr., a daughter in law Doris M. Flint, their five children Leslie, Greg, Hilary, Megan, and Austin, as well as three great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
