Ernest E. Burkes

December 25, 1923 — February 24, 2014

Ernest E. Burkes, 90, died Monday, February 24, 2014 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Edgefield Cemetery. Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Rev. Tony Black and Rev. Tom Bentley will officiate. He was a member of the United States Army. He was an excellent marksman in the European Theatre and the Germany Theatre. He was a machine gunner in the front line in Germany. He received a Purple Heart. He was an avid hunter and a wonderful Dad and Granddad. He was a member of the V.F.W. Stonestreet-Rone Post 1983. Survivors include: son, Tilmon Burkes and wife, Rhonda of McCool; daughter, Judy Pinkard and husband, Bobby of Kosciusko; step-son, Larry Parish of Ridgeland, MS; grandchildren, Brian McGough of Angleton, TX, Barbara Mitchell and husband, Benny of Hattiesburg, MS, Miranda Lamasters of Carthage, Shawna Jones of Carthage, Devin Smith of Carthage, Dallas Burkes of McCool, and Dylan Lamasters of McCool; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Enis Burkes and wife, Agnes of Lexington and Lester Earl Burkes of McCool; and sister, Sue Woods of McCool. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Tilmon and Eva Eakin Burkes. Pallbearers are Quintin Burkes, Lester Burkes, Mike Hutchison, James Faulkner, Rudy Clark, and Ryan Moyer. Honorary pallbearers are Marcus Burkes, and Hayes Nolan.
