Dorothy Marguerite “Dixie” Austin Ward of French Camp passed away on Thursday, July 21 at the Blake at Township in Ridgeland, MS. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 on Monday, July 25 at French Camp Presbyterian Church with Rev. Alex Coblentz officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 till time of service. Burial will be at French Camp Cemetery. Dixie was born on April 19, 1930 to Ben Allen Austin and Carrie Channell Austin. She grew up in the Huntsville Community and attended French Camp Elementary School and French Camp Academy. She married John Lewis Ward on February 14, 1948. At the time of his death in 2014, they had been married for 66 plus years. She was a very active and involved member of French Camp Presbyterian Church for many years. Dixie was dedicated homemaker and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In, addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Austin Grimmett Powell, and daughter-in-law, Martha Hamilton Ward. She is survived by her son, Tommy Ward (Tammy); grandchildren Kathy Ward Shields (Walker), Allen Ward (Erin), and Danny Ward; great-grandchildren Fears Ward, Flynn Ward, and Ewan Shields; nephew Mike Grimmett, and many more other beloved family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to French Camp Presbyterian Church and French Camp Academy.
