Dorothy Faye Oliver Sides passed away at her home on December 29, 2024. She was born August 11, 1926, in the Providence Community in Attala County to her parents Glennie Nowell Oliver and Delma Oliver. After losing her mother to complications from childbirth, Dorothy and her sister Christine were raised by their aunt and uncle Nora Oliver Thompson and John Thompson and their two sons Roby and Rupert Thompson.
After graduating from Ethel High School, Dorothy accepted a job at Davidson Marble and Granite Works in Kosciusko and married her husband Harold R. Sides after his return from World War II. They opened a branch office of Davidson in 1949 in Canton, Mississippi, and then returned home to Kosciusko in 1954 to manage and later purchase the business from the Davidson family. Other locations of the monument business owned by the Sides were in Union, Forest, Philadelphia, and Carthage.
Dorothy was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Kosciusko and was known by family and friends as a person who daily spent her time helping others.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Harold R. Sides, parents John and Nora Thompson, siblings Christine Watts, Roby Thompson and Rupert Thompson, and granddaughter Courtney Sides.
Survivors include son H.R. “Johnny” Sides (Gloria) and daughter Cheryl Sides, grandchildren Scott Sides (Dana) and Shea Rea (Stephen), and great-grandchildren Blake Sides, Meredith Sides, Baylie Rea and Laney Rea.
Serving as pallbearers are Scott Sides, Stephen Rea, Cole Steele, Barry Cain, Ronnie Farlow, and Darryl Ferrington. Serving as honorary pallbearer is Blake Sides.
A special thanks is extended by the family to Dorothy’s home caregivers Wilda Myers, Pearlie Miller, Cheryl Renee Seawoodand Katie McNeal.
Services will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Jordan Funeral Home with visitation at 11:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 1:00 PM. The interment will be in Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko. Rev. Barry Corbett, Rev. Mark Parnell, and Dr. Luke Gardner will officiate.
