Donald Loyd Lee, 78, from McCool, Mississippi, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko. Donald was in and out of hospitals and nursing homes for about the last five months, and he was more than ready to meet the Lord.
Donald was born on January 7, 1947, to Loyd and Benettie Lee of McCool, Mississippi. He leaves behind his wife of almost sixty years, Mary Lee; their son, Dylan Lee; and sister, Darlene (Danny) Easterling in Pearl, Mississippi. He is also survived by nieces Melissa (Ranny) Jones and Amanda Parish and nephews Cade (Laura) Milner, Todd (Kathy) Milner, and Gary (Sherry) Lee. He also leaves behind a very special double first cousin, Wanda (Stan) Tate, who spent a lot of time with him over the past few months and other cousins are Doyle Jennings, Timmy Jennings, Karen Hunt, Suzette Tanksley, Ronnie Grantham and Doug Grantham and so many friends. Donald Lee never met a stranger.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Loyd Lee and Lillie Benettie Jennings Lee; brother, Delma Clyde Lee; and sister, Lydia Parish Hood.
Donald graduated Ethel High School in 1964 and worked for Capitol News, Jackson, Mississippi for a short time and then worked on the pipeline prior to going to the army in 1968. He trained at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and then went to Vietnam. He returned from Vietnam in 1969 and was stationed at Fort Dix in New Jersey to complete his tour. After that, he worked with numerous pipeline companies, sometimes along with his brother, Delma, throughout the country as an oiler for a short time. He then became a backhoe operator until he retired in 2012. After retirement, he spent much of his time visiting the nursing homes in Kosciusko and most of the time, if not always, picked up treats for the residents. He also enjoyed hanging out with his buddies at McDonald’s or Kangaroo Crossing. Donald was always ready to help anyone who needed help of any kind. The Lord knows their house is like an animal kingdom, and all the animals were a big part of his life.
