Corene Pinkard

February 2, 1921 — April 12, 2024

Cassie Corene (Collins) Pinkard, 103, passed away on April 12, 2024. Corene was born on February 2, 1921, to Roland Collins and Effie Lou (Faulkner) Collins, in Singleton, Mississippi. She lived most of her adult life in California but returned to live in Mississippi from 1976-1987. She also lived in Oregon for a very short time. She attended grade school in Singleton, Mississippi. She had eight siblings who preceded her in death.

At the age of seventeen, she met Robert L. Pinkard of Center; they married shortly thereafter. Although Robert passed in 1983, she continued to live a long, productive life among her children. She had six children, the three oldest are deceased, Janiece Sybil Welty, R. L. Pinkard, and Robert Earl Pinkard.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Smyrna Presbyterian Church Cemetery, with a lunch to follow in the Church.

Corene had a passion for The Lord, flowers, fruits and vegetables, and cooking. She was an avid gardener and loved to cook for her family and for all who visited her. She spent timeless hours in her gardens planting, weeding, harvesting, and simply watching the plants grow. She was an excellent cook whose recipes consisted of a pinch of this, a stir here and there, and a ‘try it’. She loved her family beyond words, and she not only raised her own children, but helped raise other kids and grandchildren. However, her greatest attribute was to be a Christian. She loved her Lord and Savior with all her heart and spent many hours in prayer and reading the Bible. She never ceased to talk to her family about the value of God in their lives. She was always “the watchman on the wall” when she saw something that concerned her. She was a member of Scotts Valley Baptist Church in California and, while in Mississippi, attended County Line Baptist Church. In her younger years she played the piano in Church. She never took lessons, but she could play any song that she knew on the piano. She continued to play as she aged and enjoyed playing old hymns. When travel became a challenge, she liked to watch Dr. Stanley (pastor) on television.

Corene was proud of all her family and leaves behind an extensive legacy. In addition, she still has many family members who live in Mississippi that she loved and always hoped to visit with them again. Although she lived a full life, she will dearly be missed. She was a cornerstone of support which always kept us together. She is survived by three of her six children who live in California, Cynthia Ann Stevens (Robert) of Ione, Brenda Sue Silva (Dennis) of Aptos, and Shane Pinkard (Joyce) of Sanger. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, Shag Welty, Ted Welty, Scott Stevens, Rebecca Pinkard, and Patrick Pinkard of California, Matthew Silva of Maryland, and Brett Pinkard, Leann Rose, Rani Campbell, Susan Bars, and Shannon Pinkard of Oregon. She is also survived by 18 great grandchildren and one on the way, and eight great greatgrandchildren and two more on the way.
