C.H. "Charlie" Hawkins, Jr.

February 6, 1951 — May 28, 2024

C.H. (Charlie) Hawkins, Jr, 73, of Kosciusko died at his home May 28th.

Born on February 6, 1951, to Charles and Jane Hawkins in Kosciusko, MS, Charlie owned and operated Mid-State Motor Company with his father. Following his father’s death, he sold his business to and worked for Waters Truck and Tractor until his retirement in 2011. Charlie was a graduate of Kosciusko High School and The University of Mississippi, having earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

An accomplished drummer, Charlie played rock, soul, and beach music the majority of his life. He was an avid audiophile and a passionate Ole Miss fan. Charlie enjoyed fishing, deer and duck hunting, and almost all genres of music. He was a proud member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Rotary International, and the Kosciusko Country Club.

Charlie enjoyed playing blackjack and poker. He loved a beef filet served rare, a glass of Scotch, and oysters. He detested onions and spiders. More than anything else, Charlie wanted to be remembered simply as someone who was always fair, something his family will not deny.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Crowder Hawkins, sister, Dale Hawkins Carr (John), brother, John R. Hawkins (Kathy), son, C.H. (Chip) Hawkins(Rachel), daughters, Jane Claire Overstreet(Monique) and Meryl Allen(Shane), 7 grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

His family wants to thank the ones that made the last few months of his life comfortable, especially Lavon “Rock” Mallett, Willie “Fox” Fletcher, Jackie Tharp, Diane Erving, and the team at Accent Care Hospice.

Pallbearers will be childhood friends of his son, Chip. Honorary pallbearers are the members of The Class Reunion Band and The Friday Lunch Group.

Visitation will be Friday, May 31st from 11-1 at the St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall in Kosciusko, followed by a celebration of life in the church sanctuary. A private processional and graveside service will follow for the family.
