Catherine Mitchell

January 8, 1930 — January 18, 2014

Mrs. Catherine P. Mitchell, 84, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at St. Catherine's Village in Madison, MS. Funeral services were held Monday, January 20 at 2 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS. Burial followed in Berea Baptist Church in Attala County. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Waterproof, LA and later moved to Natchez, MS where she was employed by Bell Telephone Company. In Natchez she met and married Ross Whittington and the couple moved to Carthage where they raised their son, Adrian. After her first marriage ended, she met and married the love of her life, Jamie Mitchell. They made their home in Attala County, but traveled about the country, wherever the pipeline work took them. She remained in her country home after the death of her husband. She enjoyed taking care of her lawn and flowers, bushhogging and any kind of outside work. She adored children and was a doting grandmother. Mrs. Mitchell was known for her love and tenderness for all animals. She never turned away a stray cat or dog and was deeply concerned for the care and welfare for all animals. This love and caring was passed onto her son, Dr. Adrian Whittington, a practicing veterinarian in Jackson for 35 years. In 2011 she moved to St. Catherine's Village to be closer to her son and family. Most importantly, "Miss Catherine" loved her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ and looked forward to moving to her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Mitchell, and her sister, Mayoda Parker. She is survived by her son, Dr. Adrian Whittington and wife Janet, granddaughter Amy Ervin and husband Matt, of Cordova, TN., grandsons Austin Whittington and wife Amy of Collierville, TN and Drew Whittington and wife Emily of Ft. Worth, Texas. She is also survived by three great-grandsons, Whitt Ervin, Tyler Whittington and Jackson Whittington. Mrs. Mitchell is also survived by her beloved nephew Bobby Parker and her beloved nieces Mary Catherine Rawls, Mary Hart Whittington and Sharon Browning. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff of St. Catherine's Village and Gentiva Hospice staff, especially her nurse and friend, Kelly. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to Miss. Animal Rescue League, C.A.R.A or Madison Ark.
