Carolyn Oliver Orr Mrs. Carolyn Oliver Orr, age 89, a resident of Abe's Garden in Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on April 5, 2017. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 8, at 10:00 a.m., at Jordan Funeral Home, 870 MS 12 East, Kosciusko, MS 39090. Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial at Parkway Cemetery, Kosciusko,MS. Carolyn was born December 16, 1927, in Belzoni, Miss. to William Nathan Oliver, Sr. and Carolyn Davis Oliver. The family moved to Kosciusko where Carolyn attended grades one through twelve, graduating in 1945 from Kosciusko High School. She graduated from Mississippi State College for Women (MSCW) with a degree in library science in 1949. Carolyn married Anderson Jennings Orr, Sr., her husband of 67 years, on October 9, 1949, in Kosciusko. Jennings' employment with the Farmers Home Administration of the U.S. Department of Agriculture required frequent moves, resulting in their living in both Jackson and nine other county seat towns in Mississippi. They were transferred to Washington D.C. in 1965, but returned to Jackson in 1984. Jennings then served as the business manager of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board. Carolyn was a dedicated Christian, and was active in their church at each of the places where she and Jennings lived. She worked as a volunteer in the church libraries and was a leader in working with young children at each congregation. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jackson beginning in 1984, until moving to Nashville in 2015. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Jennings Orr, and her three sons, Jay (Anderson Jennings, Jr) Orr (Judy) of Nashville, David M. Orr (Pam) of Arlington, Va., and Stephen Oliver Orr, Sr., (Nicole) of Nairobi, Kenya, Africa. She is also survived by five grandsons, three granddaughters, and five great-grandchildren. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the charity of your choice or the Macedonian Call Foundation of Mississippi, which furnishes transportation to foreign missionaries home on furlough.
