Bruce Clinton Shuler Jr., age 62, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at his home in the Chautauqua Park subdivision, a welcoming, loving community in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on Mother’s Day May 10, 1958, a much loved and unexpected baby boy surprise after the births of his four sisters. After Bruce’s birth, his father was transferred to the Army base in El Paso, Texas. When Bruce was four, his father retired from the Army and moved the family to Ethel, Mississippi. Bruce was baptized at age 14 and was a member of the Ethel Baptist Church. While in school at Ethel, Bruce played football and participated in the band. He was also a member of the Beta Club. Bruce was valedictorian of the Ethel High School Class of 1976, reciting a famous line in Robert Frost’s The Road Not Taken: “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I took the one less travelled by.” He was a graduate of Holmes Jr. College with an emphasis of Pharmacy in Goodman, Mississippi and MSU in Starkville, Mississippi with a degree in Industrial Engineering. After receiving his degree at MSU, he was employed by Packard Electric Company in Clinton, Mississippi, working there for many years. The company’s name was changed to Delphi Packard Electric Systems and Bruce transferred to Gadsden, Alabama. Bruce began working at age 9, mowing yards in Ethel, Mississippi and while in college provided various jobs to provide for his family, and as a result, he developed a deep passion for strong, compassionate work ethic and this was very much evident upon being offered a position as Delphi’s Vice President of Overseas Operations at Seoul, Korea in 2001. He worked in Asia for 20 years: 6 years in Seoul, Korea; 7 years in Suzhou, Jiangsu, China; 2 years in Kochi, Kerala, India; 5 years in Shanghai, China where he lived and worked until his retirement in April 2020. He worked for 40 years. Bruce and his family moved back to the United States and obtained their home in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. Bruce also believed in continuous improvement of the individual, humility, and most of all, family. Bruce loved his family very much. He enjoyed traveling, sightseeing, and was a very hard worker. He had a warm heart, tried to help everybody, and he was a good man: son, brother, cousin, nephew, husband and father. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents: Clinton Shuler and Lena Clay Morgan Shuler Edwards; nephew Brian Turnquist, niece Ashley Rothlisburger and sisters, Annette Shuler and Paulette Shuler. He leaves behind to mourn his passing: wife, Mia Shuler of Seoul, Korea; children, Melanie (Chuck) Daw of Hattiesburg, Ryan Shuler of Runnels, and Ethan Kang of Starkville; grandchildren, Micah, Maddie, Alexis, and Charli; sisters, Janette McCrory of Madison and Joy (Dewey) Horne of Kosciusko and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services for immediate family will be held at Edgefield Cemetery in McCool, Mississippi at 11am on Saturday, December 26, 2020. Dr. Jeremy McCrory, nephew and pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Sturgis, Mississippi will conduct the services.
