Bill Smithson Lacey, 87, of Kosciusko, passed away on February 3, 2025, at the MS State Veterans’ Home. Bill was born in Biloxi on March 9, 1937, to Dr. Charles Frank Lacey and Adelynn Venus Lacey. Bill grew up in Thomastown and Kosciusko. After graduating from high school in 1955, Bill served in the Navy. At the end of his service, Bill met his soon-to-be wife, Pat, on a blind date in February of 1960. They married in June of 1960. After closing Lacey’s TV Repair Shop, Bill began working at Texas Eastern Transmission Compressor Station. He worked there for more than 25 years. After retiring, Bill enjoyed volunteering at Helping Hands Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, and Methodist NOMADS. Bill loved cooking, fishing, and running/walking. Bill was known by many for his cooking talents. He enjoyed sharing his dishes with others. He was also a skilled fisherman; he shared this passion with his grandchildren. Bill maintained his physical health by running/walking. Bill was a lifelong member of Thomastown Christian Church, where he served as an elder.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Patricia (Pat) Bishop Lacey; his daughter, Lesli Adelynn Lacey; and half-brother, John Lockett. Bill is survived by his son, Jeffrey Bishop (Misty) Lacey of Laurel; daughter, Jennie Lacey (Art) Cook of Kosciusko; sister, Julia (Don) Denton of Slidell; half-brother, Frankie Lacey of Kosciusko; four grandchildren, Arthur Maxwell Cook, Grayson Ward Lacey, William Bishop Cook, Adelynn Hart (Kristopher) Moss; and one great-grandson, Bishop Doyle Moss.
A visitation will be held at Jordan Funeral Home at 9:30 on Saturday, February 8, 2025, with a service to follow at 11:00 in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Gary Glazier will officiate. Curtis Dickens, Mic Lawrence, Ronnie Lockett, and his grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Bobby Bell, Jimmy Bell, Bud Moore, and Jimmy Pruitt will serve as honorary pallbearers.
