Betty Jean Whittington, 95, passed away surrounded by family Friday, May 24, 2024, at the Choctaw Regional Medical Center in Ackerman. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until 4:00 pm Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 pm in the Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the McCool cemetery. Rev. Doyle Mitchell will officiate the services.
Betty Jean was born in McCool, MS on December 11, 1928, to William Bennie and Mary Elizabeth “Mamie” Bowie Moore. She was a lifelong resident of McCool. She was a member of the Liberty Hill Independent Methodist Church, member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, and avid gardener cutting grass two to three times a week on her cub cadet lawnmower.
She is survived by one son, Wendell (Rebecca) Whittington of McCool; one daughter, Beth (Larry) Wheeless of McCool; three grandchildren, Brad (Chasity) Whittington, Jason (Beverly) Wheeless, Cody (Hillary) Whittington; six great-grandchildren, Brayden, Anslee, Walker, James Ross, Waverly, and Willow. A host of nieces and nephews also survive her.
Her parents, husband, James Wendell Whittington, and two sisters, Allyne Eakin and Sue Jennings preceded her in death.
Brad Whittington, Jason Wheeless, Cody Whittington, Jerry Eakin, Bennie Eakin, Harold Whittington, Derrick Whittington, and Allen Whittington will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Brayden Whittington, Walker Wheeless, James Ross Whittington, and Gary Eakin, Jr.
Memorials may be made to Blair E. Batson Childrens Hospital, Liberty Hill Independent Methodist Church, or McCool Cemetery Fund.
