Amie Mae Tavares Charity, 86, of Kosciusko, Mississippi, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025, at Grenada Rehab and Healthcare Center. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Jordan Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at St. Therese Catholic Church with burial at Parkway Cemetery.
Amie was born on April 14, 1938, in Mississippi, to Daniel John Tavares and Hazel Ezelle Woods Tavares. She was a homemaker and was of the Catholic faith, attending St. Theresa Catholic Church. Amie was a co-owner of Kosciusko Taxi Service. She loved going to Dirt cheap and thrift stores on Saturday mornings. Amie was a proud patriot and supporter of our 45th and 47th President, Donald J. Trump.
Amie is survived by her sons, John E. Sperry of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Joseph A. Sperry of Vero Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Amie Sperry Blount(D.J.), Lucien Sperry and Amanda Sperry; one great-grandchild, Parker Kay Blount; brothers, Sammie Tavares of Kosciusko, Ricky E. (Sandy) Tavares of Kosciusko and Horace Fletcher (Gladys Ann) Tavares of Kosciusko; sisters, Sherri Faye (Charles) Frazier of Kosciusko, Kay (Bob) Patrick of Kosciusko, Barbara Carbo of Kosciusko, and Helen Farve of Kenner, Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Tavares and Hazel Woods Tavares; husband, Thomas G. Charity; brothers, Danny Tavares and Jerry Tavares; and one sister, Sue Burns.
Greg Collins, Eddie Rutherford, and Tony Lefevere will serve as pallbearers.
The family wants to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff at Neuro ICU at UMMC Jackson and Grenada Rehabilitation Center and Adoration Hospice from Grenada.
