Ida "Genelle" Sanders, 88 (formerly of San Antonio, TX) died at Litzenberg Long Term Care in Central City, NE on May 5, 2014. Genelle was born November 5, 1925, to Jack E. and Ida Miller Bowles in French Camp, MS. Genelle grew up in Mississippi and moved to Washington DC after graduation where she was a clerk-typist for the US government during WWII. On January 12, 1945, she was united in marriage to Russell L. Sanders in Washington DC. The couple lived in Washington DC, Levelland & Pearland, TX, retiring in Attala County, Mississippi on the land owned by Genelle's parents. Russell passed away on July 30, 1996. Genelle continued to live on the family homestead until 2004 when she moved to Air Force Village in San Antonio, TX. In 2013 Genelle moved to Central City, NE to be closer to family. Genelle was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Kosciusko and did volunteer work for her church, Red Cross and the Natchez Trace Parkway. She was an avid bridge player and continued to play several times a week until her move to Nebraska. She enjoyed making jewelry, especially beads. Genelle had a kind and gentle heart towards animals. She would provide food, water, and on many occasions, a home to any abandoned animal she passed on the road. This quality she passed on to her sons. Survivors include sons: Michael (Paula) of Fresno, CA, Ralph (Francis) of Santa Cruz, CA, David (Tina) of Ava, MO and Charles (Debbie) of Central City, NE; brother, Jack of Jackson, MS; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Robert, brothers, Harry, Ray and Miller and a grandson Zeke. Graveside service will be Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Attala County. Memorials may be directed to York Adopt-A-Pet, 1511 N. Platte Ave., York, NE, 68467. Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
