Hugh David Bain

Hugh David Bain, 77, of Kosciusko, Mississippi passed away surrounded by his family after a brave battle with cancer on September 15, 2023, at Baptist Medical Center Attala. Visitation is 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 17, 2023, and 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., Monday, September 18, 2023, at Jordan Funeral Home. Graveside service is at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 18, 2023, at Marvin Chapel Cemetery. Rev. Mike Barrentine is officiating.

David was born August 27, 1946, to Quitman Lafayette Bain, Sr. and Ella Mae Burchfield Bain in Attala County, Mississippi. He grew up in the Marvin Chapel community in Attala County. He graduated from Ethel High School, Holmes Junior Community College, and Mississippi State University where he earned a degree in agriculture science. He taught agricultural science in Alton and Essex, Missouri. David later returned home to work for the State of Mississippi as a probation and parole officer with the Department of Corrections for 30 plus years. After he retired, he continued to work with law enforcement and was chosen to head up the first drug court for our judicial district. In his spare time, he enjoyed outdoor activities such as raising and showing horses, fishing, and attending the numerous athletic activities of his five grandchildren.

David is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Wanda Kerr Bain; daughter Tracey (Brad) Ryals; son Andy (Ginger) Bain; grandchildren Makenzie Ryals, Parker Ryals, Annaleigh Bain, Natalie Ryals, and Andrew Bain all of Kosciusko, Mississippi; brothers Ralph Bain (Bonnie Harrell) of Kosciusko, Roy (Jean) Bain of Philadelphia, Quitman (Nadine) Bain, Jr. of Ethel, and Danny (Beverly) Bain of Dadeville, Alabama; sisters Edna Ray (Terrell) Bell of Louisville, MS, and Sharon (Zane) Smith of Kemper, Texas; sister-in-law Patricia Bain of Kosciusko; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Quitman L. Bain, Sr and Ella Mae Burchfield Bain; brothers Marlyn “Pete” Bain. Dwight Bruce Bain, and infant brother Byron Lee Bain.

Serving as pallbearers are Ken Bain, Dwight Bain, Russell Bain, Eric Kerr, Robert Bain, Richard Bain ,and Bubba Bain.
